The main reason I do this is so it seasons quickly to be ready for use as firewood, and by keeping it in a 2m length it's easy to store and transport it. It also saves time later - each length I'm splitting ends up as 6 or 7 logs, and splitting them individually on a chopping block would take a while. If you watch the videos of the next stage in my firewood production process, you'll see why leaving them long works.
