Belle is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures' 30th animated feature film Beauty and the Beast (1991), as well as its several sequels and spin-offs. The character was originally voiced by Broadway actress Paige O'Hara from 1991 to 2011, when Disney eventually replaced her with voice actress Julie Nathanson. The book-loving daughter of an eccentric inventor, Belle is looked down upon by her village as an outcast due to the character's love of reading, and longs to abandon her provincial life in exchange adventure. When her father is imprisoned by the Beast, she willingly sacrifices her own freedom in return for his, eventually learning to accept and love the Beast, and ultimately ending his enchantment.
